Life - the good and the bad.

Life tends to give us our greatest gifts, disguised as our worst nightmares.

It's always hard to move from the "Why/poor me" position to one of "What is good about this precise moment?", "What can I learn from this situation?", "What strengths and skills do I have to support me through this situation? What is working now and what can I do more of?" and, perhaps most importantly, "Who can help me at this time?" It is often the case we forget what helped last time we found ourself facing something similar and bringing those skills back into the fore. No matter how challenging and emotional a situation there is always time to take one moment, breath slowly and reflect.

Thanks for your insight Sarah. I liked the saying I posted for this blog entry because I found it to be so true, that recently, my most difficult time has in fact presented me with many insights and gifts. Taking the time, as you say, to pause and reflect - to breathe - can help bring the gifts into perspective.

Having said that, there are still times when my heart almost stops as I churn over the 'what if', as I inevitably do from time to time. Thankfully, over time, the negatives get fewer and further between, but little things can bring them back quickly.
